Docs

What hyperbytes is, how access works, and how to use the public tools. The full runbook is private.

01What this is

hyperbytes is a personal, self-hosted platform: file sync, photos, music, a password manager, automation, a few developer utilities and the monitoring that keeps it healthy. Everything runs on infrastructure I operate myself, and most of it is private by default.

Note

This page is the public overview. The full runbook (architecture, access procedures, recovery steps) is private and sits behind a login.

02Services

The homepage lists everything with live links. In short:

GroupWhat you will find
Access & securityA browser-based SSH portal, a password manager, a private network control plane and container management.
Files & mediaNextcloud, an Immich photo library, Navidrome music streaming and a video downloader.
Automation & AIn8n workflows, a chat interface and an LLM gateway.
Developer toolsA URL shortener, a paste service, a request bin and a small toolbox.
OperationsUptime monitoring, server metrics and a service dashboard.

03Access model

  • Private by default. Most services need an account. Pages marked login sit behind an extra login in front of the app itself.
  • No open sign-ups. New accounts are created by invitation only.
  • Encrypted in transit. Every service is served over HTTPS with automatically renewed certificates.
  • Not indexed. The homepage and these docs ask search engines to stay away.

04Your data

Everything that matters is backed up every night to encrypted, deduplicated repositories in object storage, and backup health is monitored with heartbeats. On top of that, I keep an offline copy on an external drive that is only plugged in when it is being refreshed.

The tool that refreshes the offline copy is public (it needs credentials to do anything). It detects your platform, finds the external drive, lets you pick it, and mirrors the encrypted repositories onto it.

05Offline backup tool

macOS, Linux, WSL, Git Bash, Cygwin and Android (Termux):

bash <(curl -fsSL https://get.hyperbytes.in/offline-backup.sh)

Windows PowerShell 5.1 or newer:

irm https://get.hyperbytes.in/offline-backup.ps1 | iex

It asks for the storage access key, the secret key and the repository password (input hidden, never written to disk), shows how much data will be copied, and asks before it starts. Nothing is ever deleted from the drive or from the server.

Heads up

Running a script straight from a URL trusts whatever that URL serves at that moment. If you prefer, download it first, read it, and run your local copy.
